What’s in Your Water? Find Out with a Free Test
Your water could have any number of impurities that impact your daily life, from bad-tasting or smelly water to stained laundry or scale buildup on appliances. First, knowing what is in your water is the best way to treat any issues.
A free water analysis can be conducted at home and help you determine whether your water needs treatment, as well as the type of treatment it needs.
Common Water Impurities the Test Detects
Impurities you can detect with the water test include:
- Arsenic: This element is common in the soil and can enter groundwater, wells, or municipal water systems. Long-term exposure can cause multiple types of cancers, along with blood vessel damage, anemia, and nerve damage.
- Bacteria: Your drinking water can carry dangerous pathogens such as E. coli, Salmonella, cholera, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis E, or Legionnaires’ disease if not treated correctly.
- Chlorine: While many municipalities use a microscopic amount of chlorine to kill bacteria and other contaminants, too much of it can cause health problems.
- Lead: In the past, lead was a common material for pipes and other plumbing fixtures. However, lead particles can get into water and cause health problems for both children and adults.
- Nitrates: These chemicals are common in agricultural pesticides. They can seep into the water supply, are harmful to babies and young children, and can cause cancer.
- PFAs: Also called “forever chemicals,” these can linger in the body and cause long-lasting health and environmental issues.
Why Analyze Your Water?
Both well water and municipal water can contain every type of contaminant listed above and more.
Testing your water helps you detect these contaminants. From there, you can find the right filter for your water that keeps it clean and safe to drink.
