Water Treatment and Water Conditioning.
By far, the majority of all the water used in your home is used for utility purposes. This is sometimes referred to as working water. This water is used in showers, bathing, toilet flushes, wash machines, dishwashers and cleaning. As a comparison, a single toilet flush exceeds the volume a typical household would use for drinking in a day. In fact, 99% of the water used in the home is for utility purposes.
The water in West Michigan is hard. Kalamazoo municipal water is pumped from wells in the local aquifer. It contains approximately 22 grains hardness per gallon. Grand Rapids municipal water is brought from Lake Michigan and has a range of hardness between 9 and 11 grains.
Both of these levels of hardness will destroy the water-using appliances in your home, including your wash machine, dish washer, water heater and fixtures.
Hardness is, in reality, dissolved rock and specifically limestone. As water slowly filters or ‘percolates’ from the surface of the earth into the aquifers below ground, it dissolves some limestone. It is also common to have rust, or iron along with hardness. This iron and limestone, or hardness, wreaks havoc on your home and appliances. It spots glasses, kills the effectiveness of soap, dries out your skin , ruins water heaters and lowers our quality of life in West Michigan.
A water softener, also called a water conditioner will solve your hard water problem. You can buy cheap ones from big box stores, however, we provide high quality, well built systems you can rent or purchase also for low cost.
What ever the case, we size it for you, based on your specific conditions, family size, water quality, iron levels and TDS. We provide a necessary service of testing you water and doing a water system audit of your home. This is absolutely free and will give the critical information required for the selection and setup of a softening system.
