KineticoPRO CP Series Commercial Softeners

Stop Running Out of Soft Water Mid-Shift.

Most commercial softeners regenerate on a timer, usually overnight, and send hard water through the building while they do it. If your operation runs long hours, or your peak draw doesn't line up with the clock, that's a problem you feel in scale on equipment and in service calls. The KineticoPRO CP Series takes a different approach: two tanks, one always in service, regenerating on the gallons you've used rather than on a schedule. The CP Series needs no electricity and keeps delivering soft water while it regenerates.

Hard water is a bigger problem in West Michigan than in most of the country. Lake Michigan supplies run around 8 grains per gallon and groundwater systems like Kalamazoo run over 20, and none of the municipal plants in the region soften what they send out. Whatever comes out of the aquifer or the lake reaches your building intact.

The Fix

How the CP Series Works

Two tanks, both plumbed in. A metered valve tracks the gallons that pass through and switches service to the second tank when the first reaches capacity, then regenerates the first. Because one tank is always in service, soft water never stops and hard water never bypasses into the building.

The whole system uses the kinetic energy of the water moving through it. Nothing to power, nothing to reset after an outage. Regeneration is countercurrent and uses water that has already been softened, which Kinetico credits with extending resin life and protecting the valve.

Regeneration follows your usage, not the calendar, so a slow week doesn't trigger one. That's where the salt and wastewater savings come from.

Two configurations, and the difference matters. Alternating runs one tank at a time, which is the most efficient. Overdrive lets both tanks run in parallel to meet peak demand, roughly 1.5 to 1.8 times the flow. If your operation has a hard peak, a lunch rush or a shift changeover, Overdrive is usually the configuration to spec. We'll size it from your own demand curve.

Twin-Tank Demand Regeneration

  • Hard water in — Calcium and magnesium
  • Tank 1 in service — Metered valve counts actual gallons used
  • Capacity reached — Service switches to tank 2, no interruption
  • Tank 1 regenerates — Countercurrent, using already-softened water
  • Soft water out — Continuous, with no bypass window

The Systems

CP Series Models

Four sizes, each available in alternating or Overdrive configuration. Flow figures below are at 15 and 30 psid, from KineticoPRO's published brochure.

CP 208s

Two 8-inch by 40-inch tanks, 0.70 cubic feet of resin each. Alternating flow 11.5 to 18.0 gpm, Overdrive 20.5 to 30.0 gpm. Rated to 29 grains per gallon. A 45-minute regeneration using about 35 gallons.

Suited to smaller restaurants, salons, offices, and bed and breakfasts.

CP 210s

Two 10-inch by 54-inch tanks, 1.5 cubic feet each. Alternating 12 to 19 gpm, Overdrive 21 to 31 gpm. Rated to 80 grains per gallon, the highest hardness tolerance in the series. 90-minute regeneration using about 102 gallons.

The workhorse for mid-sized commercial buildings, especially on hard groundwater.

CP 213s

Two 13-inch by 54-inch tanks, 2.5 cubic feet each. Alternating 20 to 30 gpm, Overdrive 28 to 40 gpm. Rated to 51 grains per gallon. 90-minute regeneration using about 142 gallons.

For higher continuous demand: larger kitchens, laundries, and light manufacturing.

CP 216s

Two 16-inch by 65-inch tanks, 4.0 cubic feet each. Alternating 23 to 30 gpm, Overdrive 35 to 47 gpm, the top of the series. Rated to 49 grains per gallon. 90-minute regeneration using about 160 gallons.

For the largest CP applications, or as a building block in a multi-unit install.

Brine Tanks and Certification

Brine tanks come in 50, 100, 250, and 500 pound salt capacities, all HDPE, so refill frequency can be matched to your salt delivery schedule rather than the other way around. The CP Series is certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 61 for commercial installation.

How To Get Started

1

Tell us about your operation

Fill out the form or call 800-928-3768. Tell us what the water feeds, how much you use, and what's going wrong. We'll set up a site visit.

2

We test and assess on-site

A WQA-certified Water Specialist tests your water at the building and looks at the equipment it feeds, so the sizing is based on your conditions rather than a rule of thumb.

3

We spec the system and show you the trade-offs

You get options with the differences explained: capacity, flow, footprint, salt and water use, and what each one costs to run.

4

Installation and ongoing service

Our factory-trained technicians handle the install with as little downtime as we can manage, then keep it running with commercial service and salt delivery.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the CP Series different from a standard commercial softener?
Two things. It's non-electric, running on the kinetic energy of the water rather than a powered controller, so there's no circuit board and nothing to reset after an outage. And it's twin-tank and metered, so one tank is always in service. A single-tank timer softener sends hard water through the building while it regenerates. The CP Series doesn't.
What's the difference between alternating and Overdrive?
Alternating runs one tank at a time, which is the most salt and water efficient. Overdrive lets both tanks run in parallel to meet peak flow, roughly 1.5 to 1.8 times the alternating rate. If you have a hard peak, Overdrive is usually the right spec. If your draw is steady, alternating costs less to run.
What sizes does the CP Series come in?
Four: the CP 208s, 210s, 213s, and 216s, with resin volumes from 0.70 to 4.0 cubic feet per tank. Flow ranges from about 11.5 gpm on the smallest in alternating mode to 47 gpm on the largest in Overdrive.
How hard can my water be for the CP Series to handle?
It depends on the model. The 208s is rated to 29 grains per gallon, the 210s to 80, the 213s to 51, and the 216s to 49. Kinetico describes the series overall as handling up to 100 grains per gallon, which is an outer envelope rather than any single model's figure. West Michigan water runs roughly 8 to 22 grains, so hardness tolerance is rarely the limiting factor here. Flow usually is.
Does the CP Series need electricity?
No. Regeneration is driven by the water moving through the valve. There are no timers or computers to set, adjust, repair, or replace, and a power outage doesn't interrupt soft water.
How much salt will it use?
Less than a timer-based system, because it only regenerates on the gallons you've used rather than on a schedule. Kinetico doesn't publish a percentage and neither will we, since it depends on your hardness, your volume, and how variable your usage is. We'll estimate it from your numbers during the assessment.
What's the warranty on the CP Series?
KineticoPRO warrants Commercial Plus softeners for 4 years. That's the commercial warranty and it's different from Kinetico's residential coverage, which runs longer. It excludes freight and labor. We'd rather you have that number up front than find it in a document later.
Is it certified?
The CP Series is certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 61, which covers drinking water system components for commercial installation.
What kinds of businesses use the CP Series?
Restaurants and commercial kitchens, hotels and multi-unit properties, salons, laundries, medical and dental offices, schools, churches, light manufacturing, and food and beverage operations. Anywhere hard water is reaching equipment that heats or moves water.
How much does a CP Series softener cost?
Neither Gordon nor Kinetico publishes pricing on commercial equipment, because the install is as much of the number as the unit. We assess on-site and quote the system, the install, and the ongoing service together, so you're comparing total cost.
