Commercial Drinking Water in West Michigan

Stop Buying Bottled Water for the Building.

Drinking water usually starts out as a small line item for a building. Then staff start bringing bottled water from home, a lab needs de-ionized water, or a school district has lead testing to work through. Each one takes a different fix. Gordon Water has been sizing commercial water systems in West Michigan since 1973, and we start by testing what's coming out of your line.

The Signs

When a Building Needs a Drinking Water System

We see these over and over in the buildings we walk through. If your building has any of them, start with an on-site assessment.

Treating the water your whole facility uses is a different job from treating the water people drink. A softener protects your equipment. A drinking water system serves your people. Most buildings need both, and they're sized independently.

The Fix

What Commercial Drinking Water Treatment Looks Like

At the smallest end, a point-of-use reverse osmosis system sits under a sink and feeds a dedicated tap, the same way it would in a house. At the largest, an engineered RO skid produces thousands of gallons a day for a production line. In between sit bottleless coolers, plumbed into your existing line with filtration inside the unit, which is what most offices need.

The right answer depends on volume, purity, and who's drinking it. A twelve-person office and a food processing line don't belong on the same equipment.

Where bottled water still wins. Below a certain headcount, or in a space with no water line where you'd want a cooler, bottled delivery is genuinely cheaper and simpler than plumbing anything in. We run both sides of that business, so we don't have a reason to push you off bottles if bottles are right. See bottled water delivery.

Matching the System to the Job

  • Break room, under 15 people — Point-of-use RO or a bottleless cooler
  • Office floor or shared space — Bottleless cooler, carbon or RO filtration
  • School or public building — Point-of-use lead reduction at fountains and fillers
  • Restaurant, cafe, or ice — Filtration ahead of brewers, steamers, and ice machines
  • Lab, clinic, or process — De-ionized water or an engineered RO system

Kinetico AquaKinetic A200

Point of use

Kinetico AquaKinetic A200

A compact, non-electric three-stage reverse osmosis system under a sink or in a utility room, feeding a dedicated tap. Certified by WQA against NSF/ANSI 42 and 58. The practical choice for a break room, a small clinic, or an office kitchen.

Engineered

Hellenbrand X1 Series Commercial RO

Where the volume is real. The X1 Series covers roughly 30,000 to 180,000 gallons per day, for manufacturing, food and beverage production, and process water. Sized and specced from your water analysis and your peak demand.

Institutional

Lead Reduction Filtration for Schools

Point-of-use certified lead filters at fountains, bottle fillers, and kitchen taps, paired with testing. Built around Michigan's Drinking Water Management Plan obligations for school districts, so the documentation lines up with what the state asks for.

Specialty

De-Ionized Water

For labs, autoclaves, battery servicing, humidifiers, and equipment rinsing where dissolved solids cause problems. Available bottled in 3- and 5-gallon sizes on a delivery schedule, or as an engineered system when the volume justifies it.

How To Get Started

1

Tell us about your operation

Fill out the form or call 800-928-3768. Tell us what the water feeds, how much you use, and what's going wrong. We'll set up a site visit.

2

We test and assess on-site

A WQA-certified Water Specialist tests your water at the building and looks at the equipment it feeds, so the sizing is based on your conditions rather than a rule of thumb.

3

We spec the system and show you the trade-offs

You get options with the differences explained: capacity, flow, footprint, salt and water use, and what each one costs to run.

4

Installation and ongoing service

Our factory-trained technicians handle the install with as little downtime as we can manage, then keep it running with commercial service and salt delivery.

Not Sure Which of These Your Building Needs?

Tell us what the water feeds and how many people drink it. We'll test on-site and come back with options rather than a single quote.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between commercial and residential drinking water systems?
Volume, duty cycle, and what happens when it fails. A residential system serves one tap and a handful of people. A commercial system may feed a floor, a production line, or a building full of students, often continuously. Sizing is driven by peak demand rather than daily average, and the consequences of running out are different.
Should we get bottleless coolers or bottled water delivery?
Headcount usually settles it. Past roughly a dozen regular users, bottleless tends to win, because you stop paying per bottle, per delivery, and per deposit. Below that, or in a space with no water line, bottled is cheaper and simpler. We do both, so we'll run the comparison for your building rather than steering you.
Do you handle lead filtration for schools?
Yes. We install point-of-use certified lead filters at fountains, bottle fillers, and kitchen taps, and pair them with testing. Michigan's Drinking Water Management Plan puts specific obligations on districts, and we build the documentation around those rather than leaving you to reconcile it.
Can you supply de-ionized water?
Yes. De-ionized water is available bottled in 3- and 5-gallon sizes on a delivery schedule, which covers most labs, clinics, and shops. Where the volume justifies it, we can look at an engineered system instead.
What size reverse osmosis system does a production line need?
That depends on your feed water, your target purity, and your peak draw, which is why we assess on-site rather than quoting from a phone call. For scale, the Hellenbrand X1 Series we install covers roughly 30,000 to 180,000 gallons per day.
Do we need a softener as well as a drinking water system?
Usually. They do different jobs. A softener protects boilers, dish machines, steamers, ice machines, and anything else that heats water, which is where hard water does its expensive damage. A drinking water system serves people. West Michigan water runs from about 8 grains per gallon on Lake Michigan supplies to over 20 on groundwater, so the equipment side is rarely optional here.
Will filtration help our coffee and ice?
Usually a lot. Chlorine taste carries straight into coffee, tea, and ice, and scale shortens the life of brewers, steamers, and ice machines. Filtration ahead of that equipment is one of the cheapest changes a restaurant or cafe can make, and it's generally the one people notice first.
Do you service equipment you didn't install?
Yes. Our technicians are factory trained and we service most makes and models of commercial water treatment equipment across West Michigan, whether or not it came from us.
Are we locked into a contract?
Not on bottleless coolers. Purchased and engineered systems are quoted as equipment plus service, and we'll lay out what ongoing service costs before you sign anything.
How much does a commercial drinking water system cost?
It ranges too widely to quote generically, from a point-of-use unit under a break room sink to an engineered skid. We assess on-site and come back with options and the operating cost of each, so you're comparing total cost rather than sticker price.
